Netanyahu Meets with the Brother and Sister of Zachary Baumel, IDF MIA Who was Returned After 37 Years

Jerusalem, 4 April, 2019 (TPS) -- Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Wednesday evening met with Shimon Baumel and Osnat Haberman, the brother and sister of Zachary Baumel, shortly after the IDF announced that Baumel’s remains have been recovered and returned to Israel after being missing for 37 years.

The Prime Minister’s coordinator for captives and MIAs Yaron Blum and additional representatives also attended the meeting.

“Usually, for bereaved families life is divided into two: Before and after. For you life is divided into three: Before, during and now. We have made good on our commitment,” Netanyahu said.

Haberman said she had told her mother years ago “that it was not enough to want and to search. There needs to be someone with the winning card and now you have brought it.”

Baumel will be buried at the Har Herzl Military Cemetery in Jerusalem on Thursday evening.
