Passover Seder Table

Holidays By TPS   •   25 April, 2024

Jerusalem, 25 April, 2024 (TPS) -- The Passover holiday table set for the traditional Seder (from the Hebrew word for order or procedure) and meal held on the first night of Passover in Israel (outside of Israel the first two nights of the holiday both have a Seder). This year the Seder was held on Monday night, April 22.

At the Seder, Jews all over the world read the story of the ancient Israelites’ Exodus from Egypt more than 3,500 years ago from the Haggadah (the tell, or reading). The word Haggadah comes from the Hebrew word that means “to say” or “to tell.”

The Passover Seder plate can be seen on the table. It contains six foods that are part of the Seder which is a set meal held on the first night of the holiday during which Jews around the world recount the story of the Exodus from Egypt.

This table is set with an empty chair reserved for the 133 Israelis who have been held hostage in the Gaza Strip for 199 days. The napkins arranged on the plates are in the shape of a yellow ribbon, a symbol of identification with the hostages and solidarity with the Israeli forces fighting against Hamas and Islamic Jihad terrorists in Gaza.
