Jerusalem, 20 September, 2023 (TPS-IL) -- The Kapparot ceremony is one of the ways some people cast off their sins in the run up to next week’s Day of Atonement – Yom Kippur. Hasidic Jews traditionally lift a live chicken over their heads for the casting off of sins, but the government and animal rights groups have asked people not to do so as it harms them. Most people use a few coins instead.
