Jerusalem, 14 May, 2019 (TPS) -- Hundreds of World War II veterans and their families marched in Jerusalem on Tuesday in honor of the 74th anniversary of Victory in Europe Day, which marks the formal unconditional surrender of Nazi Germany to the Allies in 1945.

The marches were Jewish World war II veterans who fought with the Soviet Red Army. They marched wearing full uniform and adorned with their medals.

Addressing the veterans at the Knesset during a special event on Monday, Knesset Speaker Yuli Edelstein stated that “hundreds of thousands of Jews also took part in these battles. Some of them—the veterans—are still with us, with decorations from the war adorning their chest. Today, on Victory in Europe Day, these decorations shine more brightly than ever.”
