Jerusalem, 1 May, 2022 (TPS) -- In only its second year of observance, a new tradition has individuals read aloud Israel’s Declaration of Independence – called a Megillah (scroll) in Hebrew – at the Kotel Plaza ahead of Independence Day, which falls on Wednesday night/Thursday this year. All Jewish and Zionist organizations take part.
The Megillah is read from a scroll in the same way that the 5 biblical Megillot are read on Jewish holidays.
