Tel Hai Memorial Ceremony
Jerusalem, 21 March, 2024 (TPS) -- Dozens of people participated in a ceremony at the historic site of Tel Hai – located in the north of Israel near Lebanon – in memory of Joseph Trumpeldor and his fellow soldiers who were killed while defending the Hula Valley from an Arab attack in March 1920, during the earliest days of the British mandate in the country.
This is considered to have been the first open conflict between Jews and Arabs in the country after the start of the Zionist movement. Trumpeldor became a folk hero in Israel and his last words were said to be “”Never mind, it is good to die for our country.”
The ceremony was organized by Lobby 1701 (a civil organization established by the residents of northern Israel after the October 7 Hamas massacre) and the Kfar Giladi local alert squad after the annual state ceremony was canceled, for the first time in 100 years, because to the area was declared a “war zone” due to the ongoing threat of attacks by Hezbollah terrorists in northern Israel.
