Jerusalem, 30 December, 2015 (TPS) -- Security officers of the Israeli Administration of Border Crossing managed to prevent a major smuggling attempt into the Gaza Strip today, December 30.

At some point after 3 p.m. today, a freightliner truck carrying automobile spare parts into Gaza through the Kerem Shalom crossing, was inspected by the security officers at the check point. The officers, who found the truck suspicious and conducted an authorized search, discovered several military grade armored metal plates hidden with the rest of the shipment.

Israeli Department of Defense officials suspect that these plates were intended to be delivered into the hands of militant groups in Gaza, such as the Hamas.

“It is the first time we uncovered an attempt to smuggle armored gear or defensive equipment into the Gaza strip,” stated a Dep’ of Defense official.

A full investigation is no underway to determine who is behind this smuggling attempt and to what purpose.
