Jerusalem, 30 March, 2016 (TPS) -- Chief of Staff Lieutenant General Gadi Eizenkot wrote an official letter, responding to last week’s incident in Hebron in which an IDF soldier killed a Palestinian attacker shortly following a stabbing attack. In the letter entitled, “protecting the home, maintaining the purity of arms,” Eizenkot expressed support for the plight of IDF soldiers who find themselves in the midst of fighting against a wave of terror, but called for soldiers to abide by all of the ethical criteria of IDF operational tactics.

“We will continue to back every soldier who errs in heat of battle, against an enemy that endangers the lives of civilians and soldiers,” Eizenkot stressed. “However, we will not hesitate to prosecute the soldiers and commanders that deviate from the operational and ethical criteria, by which we operate.”
