Jerusalem, 14 October, 2018 (TPS) -- The Supreme Court is set to hear an appeal in the case of Lara Alqasem on Wednesday and issued a stay on her deportation until the case is heard. Alqasem, 22, has been detained at Ben Gurion airport for nearly two weeks, after the state refused to grant the American national entry to Israel, where she was enrolled at Hebrew University as a graduate student. Alqasem was granted a student visa, however when she arrived at Ben Gurion Airport on October 2nd, she was barred from entering the country under Israel’s anti-BDS laws as she had served as president of the University of Florida local chapter of Student for Justice for Palestine, a group that advocates BDS. Her appeal against deportation was rejected Friday by a lower court.
