Jerusalem, 3 May, 2016 (TPS) -- Four individuals from the ultra-Orthodox community in Beit Shemesh, a town located west of Jerusalem, were arrested by local police on suspicion for causing public disturbances. One of the suspects was arrested for overturning and causing damage to a police car.
The suspects reportedly rioted outside the home of a woman who reported herself to local police as a victim of domestic violence from other family members. It is widely accepted as taboo among Israel’s ultra-Orthodox community to report criminal activity to Israeli authorities, preferring instead for the community’s religious authorities to handle such matters.
