Jerusalem, 21 November, 2019 (TPS) -- The Israeli Air Force (IAF) on Wednesday received two more “Adir” F-35 fighters, bringing the total number of the advanced fighters in Israel to 22.

The two new fighters are the first in the new IAF F-35 “Lions of the South” squadron.

The continued acquisition of the “Adir” aircraft is “another expression of the long-standing military cooperation between Israel and the United States, which continues to produce the best results in the process of intensification and efficiency,” the IDF stated.

The Adir was declared operational by the IAF in December 2017. The Israeli F-35 was the first outside of the US to be declared operational, preceded only by the US Marine Corps and the US Air Force.

The fifth-generation fighter jet, manufactured by Lockheed Martin, is considered one of the world’s most advanced fighter aircraft. Israel has acquired a total of 50 F-35s which are to be supplied by December 2024.
