Jerusalem, 9 February, 2020 (TPS) -- IDF tanks on Saturday night bombed Hamas terror targets in the Gaza Strip in response to several attacks on Israel earlier in the day.

Gaza-based terrorists launched a rocket and several balloons tied to explosive charges into Israel. The projectiles and explosive charges landed in open spaces, causing no injuries or damage.

In response, IDF tanks struck two Hamas military posts.

“The Hamas terror organization is responsible for what is happening in and out of the Gaza Strip and it will bear the consequences for actions against Israeli citizens,” the IDF stated.

The exchange of fire has become routine in recent days, and Gaza based terrorists have fired seven rockets at Israel in the past week and some 20 in the past several weeks.

Balloons attached to explosive charges launched by terrorists from Gaza continued to land at several locations in Israel’s south and at other locations, over two weeks that Israel has been contending with this threat.

The explosive and flammable balloon attacks have returned to haunt Israel’s residents in the south in the past weeks after several months in which such attacks from Gaza ceased.

IDF Chief of Staff Aviv Kochavi stated Thursday that “we have no intention of allowing terrorism to succeed. The directive is very clear to the field, very clear to the last soldier – to thwart and prevent any [terrorist] activity.”

“When I say terror I also mean stones, Molotov cocktails, explosive balloons, all these are terrorism. The IDF is focused on the Palestinian arena in recent weeks and we will respond sharply and clearly to all these events,” he stated.
