Israel Gets New Police of Chief
Jerusalem, 16 December, 2020 (TPS-IL) -- After many months in which Israel had no permanent chief of police, Minister of Internal Security Amir Ohana announced Tuesday that he has decided to recommend to the Government the appointment of Border Police Commander Yaakov (Kobi) Shabtai to the position of Inspector General of the Israel Police.
Ohana made his decision after meeting in recent months with senior officers serving in the Israel Police and with a number of retired officers.
Shabtai is a decorated officer and is considered an enterprising leader with rich experience. Under his command, the Border Police became the most sought-after corps for service among young men and women in Israel, before all IDF units, in an unprecedented manner.
“All of the above combined with his vision for the Israel Police and his character traits led me to the conclusion that he is the right person to lead the police and strengthen the public’s trust in it,” stated Ohana.
Acting Inspector General Moti Cohen announced he would retire from the police.
In related news, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu decided on Tuesday to appoint Deputy Mossad Director āDā as the next Mossad Director.
āDā is an accomplished Mossad veteran. The appointment is currently in the Goldberg Committee, the Senior Civil Service Appointment Advisory Committee, chaired by former Supreme Court Justice Eliezer Goldberg.
“D” identity will be exposed if he is cleared for the position.
