Jerusalem, 15 October, 2018 (TPS) -- Israel has reopened its crossing with Syria on the Golan Heights for the first time in four years.

The crossing, which was closed in 2014 due to the civil war, was opened on Monday morning.

According to the IDF, the crossing will be used for UN forces who intend to cross over and return. This will be done to assist with implementing the 1974 Separation of Forces Agreement between Israel and Syria, which focuses on an area of separation – or demilitarized zone – between the two countries.

The Nasib trade crossing between Jordan and Syria, which was closed in 2015, has also been reopened.
