Israeli-Arab Woman Receives 22 Months in Prison for Attempting to Join ISIS

Jerusalem, 5 July, 2016 (TPS) -- Iman Kanjo, a 44-year-old teacher and mother of five from the Israeli-Arab town of Shfar’am in the Galilee, was sentenced on Tuesday morning to 22 months in prison for attempting to join the Islamic State terror organization, also known as ISIS.

According to the indictment filed at the Haifa District Court, Kanjo traveled to Turkey in August 2015 and tried to cross the border into Syria to join the extremist Sunni terrorist organization to give lectures on jihad. She was caught and arrested by Turkish authorities along with some 30 other people from around the world who were plotting to join the Islamic State as well.
