Jerusalem, 13 October, 2016 (TPS) -- Israeli UN Ambassador Danny Danon, commented on the decision of UNESCO on Jerusalem and on the appointment of the incoming UN Secretary-General, Portuguese Antonio Guterres, appointed today by the UN General Assembly.

“I congratulate Mr. Guterres on his election and wish him  success in this important position. On the day that the UN institutions are slandering Israel anew and the UNESCO passes a resolution attempting to sever the historical connection of the Jewish people with Jerusalem, I expect the new secretary-general will be a fair leader to stop this obsession with Israel and our partnering against anti-Semitic and anti-Israel forces amidst the UN.”

Antonio Guterres is expected to assume office in early January 2017, which will be followed by mukltiple changes in the organization’s leadership.
