Local Council Chairman Suspected of Shooting and Killing a Man who Attacked Him

Jerusalem, 5 September, 2016 (TPS) -- Salman Amar, Chairman of the Julis Local Council in the Galilee, is suspected of shooting and killing a man who attacked him on Monday morning.

Eyewitnesses said that 45-year-old Munir Nabwani had attacked Amar with a club or an ax, and that he had attempted to attack him in the past as well. Amar responded by drawing his handgun and shooting him.

Police said the shooting occurred at the council plaza in the Druze community, and that they have initiated an investigation. Magen David Adom said that paramedics attempted to resuscitate Nabwani, but eventually pronounced him dead at the scene.
