Jerusalem, 26 June, 2019 (TPS-IL) -- Israeli Interior Minister Aryeh Deri on Wednesday signed an order to officially rename the northern city of Nazareth Illit and changed it to Nof HaGalil (the Galilee landscape or view).

The mayor of Nof Galil, Ronen Plut, initiated a referendum among city residents regarding a change in the city’s name. Offered five names, the majority of the residents supported changing the name to Nof Hagalil.

The process of changing the name began with the approval of the Government Names Committee and ended by Deri signing the amendment.

“I am convinced that the beautiful city of Nof Hagalil will continue to prosper and develop for the welfare of its residents,” Deri stated.
