Jerusalem, 10 May, 2016 (TPS) -- During a ceremonial commemoration of Israeli diplomats who were killed during their time of service, Prime Minister Netanyahu revealed that Israel almost deployed the IDF to Cairo for a rescue attempt of its diplomats who were besieged by Egyptian protesters, in the Israeli embassy in Egypt.

“Here, a few years ago, in the situation room of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, we were standing during the siege closing in on our people in the Israeli embassy in Cairo,” recounted Netanyahu. “The mob came to kill our people, and we operated that night with all the tools at our disposal, including the threat of a rescue operation by the IDF, which finally tipped the balance and led to the Egyptian forces, then under the rule of the Muslim Brotherhood, together with careful coordination from here in the the situation room, ultimately to the successful conclusion of this incident.”
