Jerusalem, 28 July, 2016 (TPS) -- The Palestinian Authority’s President Mahmoud Abbas told Sudan TV that his Fatah party will engage in reconciliation talks with Hamas. Among the topics reportedly to be discussed include Hamas’ participation in future Palestinian Authority presidential and parliamentary elections as well as the establishment of a Palestinian unity government.

“We need internal Palestinian reconciliation and fast,” Abbas told Sudan TV. “Without unity, there will not be a Palestinian state.”

The Palestinian factions have governed separately from one another since Hamas ousted Fatah from Gaza in the summer of 2007, and ever since, Hamas has ruled over Gaza while Fatah has governed in Palestinian Authority areas throughout Judea and Samaria.
