Stabbing Attack Prevented Near Nablus in Samaria, Attacker Dead

Jerusalem, 31 July, 2016 (TPS) -- A Palestinian man attempted to carry out a stabbing attack against IDF forces shortly before 3 p.m. and was subsequently shot dead, the IDF has confirmed.

The incident occurred at a roundabout near Huwwara, close to the entrance to the city of Nablus in Samaria. According to the IDF the attacker drove next to IDF soldiers, exited the car and ran towards them with a knife in his hand. The troops responded by shooting the assailant, who died from the gunshots. No Israeli soldiers were hurt.

All roads in the area were blocked following the attempted attack.

The Palestinian Health Ministry reportedly identified the attacker as 31-year-old Rami Awartani.
