Jerusalem, 25 June, 2020 (TPS) -- An IDF Military Court on Wednesday sentenced terrorist Assem Barghouti to four cumulative life sentences in prison for the murder of two IDF soldiers and an Israeli baby in two attacks at the end of 2018.

In addition, he was ordered to pay millions in compensation to the wounded and the families of the victims.

Barghouti was convicted in November 2019 of a series of offenses, including three felony counts of causing death, the military equivalent of a homicide offense, and attempts to commit this offense.

Barghouti carried out the shooting attack at a bus stop outside Givat Assaf on December 13, 2018, in which Staff Sergeant Yuval Mor Yosef, 20, and Staff Sergeant Yosef Cohen, 19 were killed.

On December 9, 2018, the terrorist, along with his brother Salah, carried out the shooting attack at the Ofra junction, in which the unborn baby Amiad Yisrael Ish-Ran was murdered, and his mother and others were wounded.

Salah Barghouti, 29, was killed by IDF forces a few days after the second attack while violently resisting arrest.

Both were sons of Hamas leader Omar Barghouti.

Both of their homes were demolished by IDF forces in the past year.

“The IDF will continue to act resolutely against terrorist entities in the Judea and Samaria area, and will work hard to enforce the law with all who commit terrorist acts,” the IDF stated after Wednesday’s ruling.
