US Vice President Joe Biden: Israel Moving in Wrong Direction

Jerusalem, 19 April, 2016 (TPS) -- US Vice-President Joe Biden said on Monday that Israel under Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s leadership is moving in “the wrong direction,” adding that he felt “overwhelming frustration” with the Israeli government. The remarks were made at the gala of the Israel-lobby J Street, a relatively new US lobby organization that is frequently critical of Netanyahu.

“I firmly believe that the action Israel’s government has taken over the past several years — the steady and systematic expansion of settlements, the legalization of outposts, land seizures — they’re moving us, and more important, they’re moving Israel, in the wrong direction,” Biden said. “They’re moving us toward a one-state reality, and that reality is dangerous.”

US Secretary of State John Kerry, who also spoke at the gala, said that the United States will continue pushing hard for the two-state solution as any other scenario would be “neither Jewish nor democratic.”
