Jerusalem, 21 May, 2024 (TPS) -- Israeli troops continued fighting Hamas’s efforts to regroup, launching 70 airstrikes over the past day, the Israel Defense Forces said on Tuesday.

In the Jabalya area of northern Gaza, soldiers eliminated several Hamas terrorists. In one incident, Israeli aircraft eliminated a Hamas squad firing at ground forces.

In the southern Gaza area of Rafah, Israeli aircraft killed a terrorist firing mortar shells at ground forces. Other terrorists were eliminated and soldiers seized rockets and other Hamas military equipment.

In central Gaza, ground forces directed an airstrike on an armed Hamas squad that was spotted approaching them, eliminating the terrorists.

During the past day, Israeli aircraft struck and dismantled approximately 70 terror targets throughout the Gaza Strip, including military compounds, rocket launchers, weapon storage sites, observation posts, terror cells, and other terror infrastructure.

On Monday evening, it was cleared for publication that the bodies of four Israeli hostages recovered during the weekend were found in tunnels beneath Jabalya. After locating the tunnel shaft, soldiers from the elite Yahalom combat engineering unit entered the tunnel, fought terrorists, neutralized booby traps and located large quantities of weapons and intelligence material along with the bodies of Amit Buskila, Shani Louk, Itzhak Gelerenter and Ron Benjamin.

At least 1,200 people were killed, and 252 Israelis and foreigners were taken hostage in Hamas’s attacks on Israeli communities near the Gaza border on October 7. Of the 128 remaining hostages, some 40 are believed dead.
