Bulgarian Foreign Ministry Hosts Meeting on Combating Antisemitism
Jerusalem, 28 May, 2025 (TPS-IL) -- Sofia (BTA) – A working meeting of the Contact Group for Combating Anti-Semitism was held at the Bulgarian Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA), the ministry announced. It was convened by the National Coordinator for Combating Antisemitism, Deputy Minister Elena Shekerletova. Representatives of ministries and departments involved in combating antisemitism, as well as organizations of Bulgarian Jews, participated.
The implementation of the activities set out in the National Action Plan for Combating Antisemitism (2023-2027), as well as the upcoming international events in the fight against antisemitism, in which Bulgaria is expected to participate, were discussed. All participants in the meeting confirmed the importance of the historical traditions of unity, respect, empathy and harmonious coexistence in Bulgarian society.
In implementation of Decision of the Council of Ministers No. 874 of 2022, Deputy Minister Elena Shekerletova was appointed National Coordinator for Combating Antisemitism by Order No. 95-00-67/19.05.2025 of the Minister of Foreign Affairs Georg Georgiev, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said.
In September 2024, the then Coordinator for Combating Antisemitism and Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Neviana Mitova reviewed the implementation of the National Action Plan for Combating Antisemitism during a meeting of the Contact Group for Combating Anti-Semitism. All participants united around the key importance of prevention in order to limit and counteract manifestations of an antisemitic nature. Representatives of state structures and non-governmental organizations jointly confirmed their will and determination to actively combat discrimination, intolerance and hatred, including anti-Semitism, which have no place in Bulgarian society.
