Bulgaria to Join Eight EU Defense Projects Worth Over $1 Billion
Jerusalem, 15 April, 2026 (TPS-IL) -- Brussels (BTA) – Bulgaria will receive funds to participate in eight joint European projects in the field of defense, data presented today by the European Commission shows. In total, the EC will allocate €1.07 billion ($1.27 billion) to 57 defense projects.
Bulgaria will participate in a project to enhance cybersecurity with a total value of over €52 million ($61.2 million). It is also plans to participate in a project for dual-purpose orbital systems with a budget of over €57 million (67.1 million), as well as in a project for the development of low-cost reconnaissance satellites with a budget of over €65 million ($76.5 million).
Bulgarian specialists will be involved in a project worth nearly €5 million ($5.8 million) to evaluate intelligence data using quantum technologies, as well as in a project worth nearly €79 million ($93 million) for the purposes of the Navy.
Bulgaria is also expected to participate in a project for the further development of air combat systems worth nearly 28 million euros ($33 million), as well as in a project for the development of military training simulators using lasers and artificial intelligence worth nearly 4 million euros ($4.7 million).
The last project with Bulgarian participation worth nearly 6 million euros ($7 million) envisages the development of devices for detecting high-speed targets in poor visibility.
