Hotel and Travel Accommodations Revenues in Bulgaria Totalled $38 Million in May

Jerusalem, 12 July, 2022 (TPS) -- SOFIA, (BTA) In May 2022, revenues from stays at hotels and similar accommodations for travelers totaled 75.6 million Bulgarian leva ($38 million), said the National Statistical Institute. Of these, 38.1 million leva were contributed by foreigners and 37.5 million leva from Bulgarians.

In May 2022, the total bed occupancy in accommodation establishments was 20.3%, up by 4.4 percentage points from a year earlier. The highest bed occupancy was in 4 and 5 stars accommodation establishments – 24.0%, followed by 3-star accommodation establishments – 18.6%, and with 1 and 2 stars – 14.7%.

In May 2022, 2, 373 accommodation establishments – hotels, motels, camping sites, mountain chalets and other establishments for short-term accommodation with more than 10 bed-places, operated in the country. The total number of rooms in them was 94,200 and the bed-places were 207,200. In comparison with May 2021, the total number of accommodation establishments increased by 16.2% and the bed-places in them – by 34.9%

The total number of overnights spent in all accommodation establishments registered in May 2022 was 1,263,100, or 72.6% more in comparison with the same month of the previous year. Overnights spent by Bulgarian residents were 657,100 and by foreigners – 606,000.

In May 2022, the number of arrivals in all accommodation establishments increased by 41.2% year-on-year, reaching 492,000. Bulgarians who stayed in accommodation establishments were 332,000 and spent 2 nights on average. Foreign arrivals were 160,000 and had 3.8 nights on average, as 72.7% of them spent nights in hotels with 4 and 5 stars.

In May 2022, 78.2% of all overnights of foreigners and 42.7% of overnights of Bulgarians were in 4- and 5-star hotels.
