Jerusalem, 8 August, 2024 (TPS) -- Israel called on Palestinians in Khan Yunis to evacuate certain neighborhoods on Thursday following rocket attacks from the southern Gaza town.

Col. Avichay Adraee, the Israel Defense Force’s Arabic-language spokesman, tweeted a list of neighborhoods to be evacuated, directing residents to take shelter in areas closer to the coast.

“Hamas and terrorist organizations continue to fire rockets from your areas towards the State of Israel.” Adraee tweeted. “The IDF will act forcefully against these elements. For your own safety, you must evacuate these areas immediately to the humanitarian zone.”

On Wednesday, soldiers from the 7th Brigade Combat Team completed an operation in the Bani Suheila neighborhood of Khan Yunis where they raided dozens of Hamas facilities and killed over 70 terrorists, mostly in close-quarters combat.

During the operation, combat engineers found and destroyed an underground route dozens of meters deep. Along the route, the troops located several underground Hamas workshops and a compound where there were three rooms used by the terrorists to store and manufacture weapons.

At least 1,200 people were killed, and 252 Israelis and foreigners were taken hostage in Hamas’s attacks on Israeli communities near the Gaza border on October 7. Of the 111 remaining hostages, 39 have been declared dead. Hamas has also been holding captive two Israeli civilians since 2014 and 2015, and the bodies of two soldiers killed in 2014.
