Jerusalem, 9 June, 2024 (TPS) -- Following the rescue of four hostages who were held in the Nuseirat refugee camp, Israeli forces continued operations in central Gaza, the Israel Defense Forces said on Sunday.

In the areas of Deir al-Balah and Bureij, soldiers assisted by fighter jets eliminated terror squads and dismantled terror infrastructure. One terror squad that opened fire on soldiers was eliminated in an airstrike.

Over the past day, numerous mortar shells were fired at soldiers from the area of the Islamic University in Gaza City. No Israeli injuries were reported and an airstrike destroyed the launcher.

The developments came on the heels of Israeli forces rescuing hostages Noa Argaman, Almog Meir Jan, Andrey Kozlov and Shlomi Ziv under heavy fire.

In Rafah, soldiers located numerous additional terror tunnel shafts, mortars, and weapons. During one targeted raid, troops uncovered large numbers of weapons, including firearms, RPGs, explosive devices, cartridges, grenades, and other military gear.

Furthermore, IAF fighter jets and additional aircraft struck numerous terror targets throughout the Gaza Strip, including an Islamic Jihad tactical-level commander.

At least 1,200 people were killed, and 252 Israelis and foreigners were taken hostage in Hamas’s attacks on Israeli communities near the Gaza border on October 7. Of the 116 remaining hostages, more than 30 are believed dead.
