Israeli Military Makes First Logistical Airdrop in 17 Years
Jerusalem, 11 December, 2023 (TPS) -- Israel airdropped seven tons of water for hundreds of soldiers fighting in Khan Yunis, the first operational military airdrop in 17 years, the Israel Defense Forces said on Monday.
The airdrops took place over a period of several days, delivered by a Super Hercules C-130J.
The drop used the IDF’s “Guided Supply” system, an advanced operational system that enables parachuting equipment to ground forces using precise navigational capabilities. This is the first operational use of this system.
The last time the IDF airdropped supplies to soldiers was in 2006 during the Second War in Lebanon.
Also on Monday, an Israeli man in Holon, near Tel Aviv, was lightly-to-moderately wounded in a rocket attack from the Gaza Strip.
The Magen David Adom emergency medical service treated the 45-year-old victim for shrapnel wounds. Footage posted on social media showed damage to cars and several buildings.
Warning sirens also sounded in Tel Aviv, Or Yehuda, Bat Yam and nearby communities, as well as in Rishon LeTsiyon, Palmachim and Kfar Chabad.
At least 1,200 people were killed in Hamas’s attacks on Israeli communities near the Gaza border on Oct. 7. Hamas currently holds 137 men, women, children, soldiers and foreigners captive in Gaza. Some people remain unaccounted for as Israeli authorities continue to identify bodies and search for human remains.
Since Oct. 7, Palestinian terrorists in Gaza have fired more than 11,500 rockets towards Israeli territory.
