Jerusalem, 17 February, 2025 (TPS-IL) -- Muhammed Shaheen, who served as the head of Hamas’s Operations Department in Lebanon, was killed in an Israeli airstrike in Sidon, the Israel Defense Forces said on Monday.

The IDF said Shaheen was eliminated “after recently planning terror attacks, directed and funded by Iran, from Lebanese territory.”

The army described Shaheen as “a significant source of knowledge” within Hamas who was responsible numerous terror attacks and rocket barrages.

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, who was giving testimony at the Tel Aviv District Court, left early to hold an urgent security consultation with military commanders.

At least 1,200 people were killed, and 252 Israelis and foreigners were taken hostage in Hamas’s attacks on Israeli communities near the Gaza border on October 7. Of the 73 remaining hostages, more than 30 are believed to be dead.
