Poland Ready to Sell Electricity to Ukraine Amid Slovakia’s Threats
Jerusalem, 8 January, 2025 (TPS-IL) -- (PAP) – Poland is ready to sell electricity to Ukraine if Slovakia cuts its supplies to the country, Climate Minister Paulina Hennig-Kloska said on Tuesday.
In December, Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico warned that it would cut electricity supplies to Ukraine if Kyiv does not allow for continued transit of Russian gas through its territory.
“Poland will be able to increase sales of electricity to Ukraine provided that Ukraine expresses such a wish,” Henning-Kloska told the public television TVP Info.
“Our operator is ready, the only question is whether Ukraine will want or need to use it,” Henning-Kloska said.
“Fico’s behavior is against Europe,” she added.
Ukraine announced in December that it was not planning to extend the contract for the transit of Russian gas to Europe, which expired on December 31. Russia’s energy giant Gazprom last week said it had ended gas exports to Europe through Ukraine.
