‘We Were in the Staircase, and Then — Boom!’: 8 Israelis Injured as Hezbollah Fires 200 Rockets
Jerusalem, 24 November, 2024 (TPS-IL) -- Eight Israelis were injured as Hezbollah fired more than 200 missiles at central Israel, Haifa and the Galilee on Sunday.
A 60-year-old man was seriously injured by shrapnel in Kibbutz Kfar Blum in the Upper Galilee. In Petah Tikva, Magen David Adom emergency responders treated a 70-year-old woman for smoke inhalation and 23-year-old man with minor injuries.
“We were in the staircase, and then — boom!,” Shula, a Petah Tikva resident told The Press Service of Israel. She explained that her building did not have a safe room, so people huddled in the stairway before leaving.
“But we didn’t panic. Nothing happened,” she said.
In Ma’alot-Tarshiha, a 51-year-old woman was injured by shrapnel when a rocket struck a factory. Another two men in their 50s also suffered shrapnel injuries
In Haifa, two buildings that took direct hits were evacuated amid fears of a collapse.
Since midnight, around 200 rockets and drones crossed into Israel from Lebanon.
Meanwhile, Col. Avichay Adraee, the Israel Defense Force’s Arabic-language spokesperson, called on residents of Beirut’s Dahieh district not to approach within 500 meters of the Al-Hadath and Burj Al-Barajna buildings.
“You are located near Hezbollah facilities and interests, against which the IDF will operate in the near future,” Adraee tweeted.
After the Hamas attacks of October 7, 2023, Hezbollah began launching rockets and launching drones at northern Israel communities daily. More than 68,000 residents of northern Israel are displaced from their homes. Hezbollah leaders have repeatedly said they would continue the attacks to prevent Israelis from returning to their homes.
According to United Nations Security Council Resolution 1701, which ended the 2006 Second Lebanon War, Hezbollah is forbidden from operating in southern Lebanon south of the Litani River.
At least 1,200 people were killed, and 252 Israelis and foreigners were taken hostage in Hamas’s attacks on Israeli communities near the Gaza border on October 7. Of the 97 remaining hostages, more than 30 have been declared dead. Hamas has also been holding captive two Israeli civilians since 2014 and 2015, and the bodies of two soldiers killed in 2014.
