Woman Killed, 18 Injured in Stabbing and Car-Ramming Spree
Jerusalem, 15 January, 2024 (TPS) -- An Israeli woman was killed and 18 others injured during a Palestinian stabbing and car-ramming spree in Raanana on Monday.
The Meir Medical Center in Kfar Saba confirmed that a woman in her 70s died of injuries from stab wounds.
After stabbing the woman and two other victims, the suspect, a Palestinian from Hebron, stole a car and ran over pedestrians in Raanana’s Ahozeh Street. When the vehicle got stuck, the suspect stole a second car. He proceeded to run over more pedestrians on Harushot St. before finally being stopped by police. A second suspect, a relative, was arrested shortly afterwards.
Magen David Adom said emergency responders treated 14 people for injuries on Raanana’s Ahozeh Street while another five were treated at a separate scene on Harushot St.
Among the victims were seven children.
The attacks took place near the end of the school day, and Ra’anana Mayor Chaim Broyde requested that residents and schoolchildren stay inside during the hour-long search for the suspect.
There was confusion about whether the attack was awhile as police investigated multiple locations and searched for additional suspects.
Speaking to reporters at the scene, Police Commissioner Kobi Shabtai, “The two terrorists are relatives who entered Israel illegally.”
