IDF Rounds Up Tens of Terror Suspects in Surprise Operation in Benyamin
The IDF was successful on Wednesday evening in rounding up and arresting dozens of terror suspects linked to the Hamas terror organization’s infrastructure in Judea and Samaria.
The IDF stated that following intelligence and operational efforts, Israeli forces arrested dozens of Hamas terrorist operatives from the organization’s student cell at Bir Zeit University while they were in the village of Turmus-Aya in the Benyamin area.
They had come to the home of terrorist Muntasar Shalbi, which was recently demolished by the IDF.
Shalabi murdered Israeli yeshiva student Yehuda Guetta and wounded two others about two and a half months ago in a terrorist attack at the Tapuach Junction in Samaria.
The IDF noted that some of those who were arrested were directly involved in terrorist activities that included money transfers, incitement, and organizing Hamas’ activities in Judea and Samaria.
The terror suspects were transferred to the Shin Bet for interrogation.
“The operation was made possible in light of intelligence-operational preparations and inter-organizational activities of the security forces in the sector,” the IDF stated.
Online invitations to the event state that the Hamas student cell at Bir Zeit University “invites you to participate in a visit to the family of the heroic prisoner Muntasar Shalabi, who carried out the heroic attack at the Za’atara (Tapuach) checkpoint.”
The IDF had apparently taken advantage of the preplanned and publicized event at Shalabi’s house and surprised the terror operatives.
Police Arrest Arab for Vicious Assault on Jew in Tel Aviv Park
The police arrested on Tuesday an Arab man who was part of a group that viciously attacked a Jewish man riding his bicycle in a park in Tel Aviv.
The police stated that it had launched an investigation on Sunday after receiving a report of violence in Hayarkon Park in Tel Aviv, in which a number of suspects attacked a cyclist who was riding in the park.
The police say that its preliminary investigation shows that the attack was a form of road rage in which the group attacked the man over the use of the path, and not a nationalist attack.
Other reports indicate that the group was all family members, including brothers aged 13 and 15, who attacked the man in his 50s.
Footage of the attack circulated on social media shows the group kicking the man while he lays on the ground shouting “Jews, please help me.”
The victim was taken for medical treatment at Ichilov Hospital while suffering from a concussion and injuries to his body.
His bicycle was broken and his cellphone was thrown into the Yarkon River.
In the days since the attack, the victim has reportedly begun to stutter and is in a difficult emotional state.
Police investigators identified and located one of the suspects in the assault. The suspect, a resident of the city of Lod, was arrested and brought for questioning at the police station, at the end of which he was released under restrictive conditions, including house arrest for five days.
More arrests are expected.
Facebook Removes page of Hamas-Affiliated Shehab News
Facebook has shut down the page of the Gaza-based Hamas-affiliated Shehab News Agency.
A Facebook spokesperson stated Tuesday that the page was removed after Shehab continued to violate community standards.
“Despite recent outreach to its administrators regarding our policies, we have had to disable the Shehab News Agency Facebook page for repeatedly violating our community standards,” the statement said.
Facebook has “previously explained to the Shehab News team that, in order to keep our community safe and prevent harm, we do not allow praise or support for groups, leaders or individuals who have engaged in violence.”
The news agency’s page in English appears to be accessible.
This is not the first time Shehab News has been banned from Facebook. In 2015, the page was shut after Israeli students who are a part of a program to fight anti-Semitism reported the page.
Shehab has featured cartoons encouraging terror attacks.
Israelis have repeatedly complained that Facebook is not tough enough on combating anti-Semitism and incitement to terrorism on its platform.
Israeli FM Lapid and Egyptian FM Shukri meet in Brussels
Israeli Foreign Minister Yair Lapid met on Sunday evening with Egyptian Foreign Minister Sameh Shukri in Brussels. Lapid is on a visit with the European Union.
The meeting lasted approximately one hour, during which the two discussed “various security and political issues.”
Lapid raised the issue of Israeli captives held by Hamas in the Gaza Strip. Egypt is mediating between Israel and Hamas on a long-term ceasefire that includes the exchange of terrorists held in Israeli prison for the captives held by Hamas in Gaza.
In addition, the two discussed “ways to strengthen the security of the State of Israel in the face of terrorist threats as well as a number of options regarding humanitarian aid to the Gaza Strip,” the Israeli Foreign Ministry stated.
Shukri “stressed the need to resolve the current stalemate between the Palestinian and Israeli sides, leading to just and comprehensive peace negotiations.”
Shukri last met with an Israeli representative, then Foreign Minister Gabi Ashkenazi, in Cairo at the end of May, the first official visit by an Israeli foreign minister in Egypt in 13 years.
IDF Captures 3 Armed Gazans Crossing into Israel
IDF forces captured three armed Arabs who attempted to cross from the Gaza Strip into Israel on Saturday night.
The three were armed with knives.
No one was injured in the incident.
Infiltration attempts from Gaza into Israel occur several times a week. While they are often attempts by work-seekers to enter Israel illegally, the IDF treats all incidents as a terror attack.
