Palestinians opened fire at civilian work crews working along the northern section of the Gaza Strip. One vehicle was hit, the IDF Spokesman’s Unit said.

Record number of women enlist to IDF combat units

More than 1,000 women enlisted to IDF combat units during the summer recruitment, Army Radio reported Wednesday. That number has nearly doubled since 2012 when just 547 women served in combat roles.
Although by law women are required to perform two years of military service, women choosing to enlist in combat units are required to agree to sign on for an additional eight months, to match the legal requirement for men.
The IDF Spokesman’s Unit released the numbers a day after Air Force Commander Gen. Amikam Nurkiin nominated Major G. to command the 122nd air wing, known as Nachshon. G., 34, will become the first woman in that role.
False alarm sounds in Gaza Belt

Residents of the Gaza Belt were sent scurrying to find shelter on Wednesday morning, as a missile warning alarm sounded throughout the region. It was later made apparent that the siren was a false alarm.
IDF confirms Hamas fire was not aimed at Israel

The IDF confirmed that the gunfire from the Hamas post on Tuesday, which lead to the IDF destroying the post and killing the two Hamas snipers inside, was not directed at Israeli forces, but was part of a training exercise by Hamas’ commando unit.
The IDF was unaware of the exercise, and upon identifying gunfire emanating from a Hamas post, responded with tank fire, destroying the post and killing the two Hamas snipers inside.
