IDF Denies Syrian Army Claim that it Shot Down Israeli Aircraft

13 September, 2016   |   9 years ago

The IDF released a statement denying claims by the Syrian army that it had downed an Israeli warplane and a surveillance drone. The IDF said that surface-to-air missiles were fired towards the IAF aircraft, but that the planes were far away from the source of the fire and were not in any danger.

Syrian media reported earlier that the Syrian army claimed to have hit the IDF aircraft while they were striking targets near Quneitra. The strikes were an Israeli response to mortar fire from Syria that landed in Israel last night- the last of several such incidents in the past two weeks. Israel holds the Syrian army responsible for all attacks originating in Syria, whether intentional or accidental.

During the Evening: Stones Thrown At Soldiers in Tulkarm, Mortar Landing in Northern Golan Heights

12 September, 2016   |   9 years ago

A little while ago, stones were thrown at two female when they mistakenly entered Tulkarm, near Nablus. The two soldiers were transfered to the security forces with the cooperation of the Israeli police and in coordination with the Civil Administration. Circumstances of the incident are currently being reviewed.

Later in the evening, a mortar exploded in an open area in the northern part of the Golan Heights. No injuries or property damage were reported. The incident was apparently a misfire from internal battles within Syria in its ongoing civil war.

In response to the apparent misfirings that have happened recently in the Golan Heights, Head of the Golan Regional Council, Eli Malka, warns : “There is no difference between misfring and intentional firing. Both hold the same risk for human life. It iks within the responsibility of the Minister of Defense and the IDF to convey a clear message to all parties on the other side of the border that each  mortar shell falling in the Golan Heights will be considered intentional firing into Israel and that the IDF will thus respond strongly to destroy those sources of fire and the relevant forces to which they belong. “
