A little while ago, stones were thrown at two female when they mistakenly entered Tulkarm, near Nablus. The two soldiers were transfered to the security forces with the cooperation of the Israeli police and in coordination with the Civil Administration. Circumstances of the incident are currently being reviewed.

Later in the evening, a mortar exploded in an open area in the northern part of the Golan Heights. No injuries or property damage were reported. The incident was apparently a misfire from internal battles within Syria in its ongoing civil war.

In response to the apparent misfirings that have happened recently in the Golan Heights, Head of the Golan Regional Council, Eli Malka, warns : “There is no difference between misfring and intentional firing. Both hold the same risk for human life. It iks within the responsibility of the Minister of Defense and the IDF to convey a clear message to all parties on the other side of the border that each  mortar shell falling in the Golan Heights will be considered intentional firing into Israel and that the IDF will thus respond strongly to destroy those sources of fire and the relevant forces to which they belong. “

Speaking at a memorial event in Jerusalem marking the 15th anniversary of the September 11th attacks, US Ambassador to Israel Dan Shapiro said that Israeli society stands out as a model in successfully passing on the memory of significant events and tragedies, to future generations.

“Where Israelis have excelled and where we continue to learn from them is conveying the power of memory and history forward so that each successive generation understands the meaning and the obligations that flow from events from which they cannot personally recall,” said the ambassador.

“Through national ceremonies, small graveside memorials and a commitment to education, Israel plants seeds of understanding in those who are not there and the result is a people that knows how to honor and grieve its losses but also unites in common purpose to build, to serve, to protect and to live out its most sacred values.”
