Jordanian Parliament Boycotts Israeli Delegation: “We Don’t Recognize the Peace Agreement”

Atef Tarawneh, Speaker of the Jordanian Parliament, announced on Tuesday that the parliament refused to approve the participation of an Israeli delegation in an international summit held in Jordan this week, according to Jordanian media. Tarawneh added that the Chamber called on the organizers of the summit not to have any Israeli representation in the event.

He explained in a press conference that in this step, the Jordanian Parliament is demonstrating that it holds a different position to the official Jordanian stance on the peace agreement between Israel and Jordan. While the leadership’s policy is to maintain the peace agreement, the House of Representatives boycotts Israel and treats it as an enemy state.

The 2016 Women in Parliaments Global Forum (WIP) is scheduled to open in Amman on Wednesday, marking the first time it has been hosted in the Middle East.
