Gazan Terrorists Fire Rocket at Israel
Gaza-based terrorists on Monday night launched a rocket at Israel. The rocket exploded in an open area, causing no injuries or damage.
The IDF did not respond to the attack.
The attack occurred after nine days of calm, before which Israel was subjected to several days of attacks from Islamic Jihad terrorists who fired over 450 rockets at Israel.
US Gen. Milley in Israel, Meets with IDF’s LTG Kohavi
The IDF Chief of General Staff Lt. Gen. Aviv Kohavi met with the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, Gen. Mark Milley in Israel on Sunday, and “the two discussed current operational issues and regional developments,” the IDF stated.
Kochavi “expressed his appreciation to General Milley for his many years of support of the collaboration between the armies,” the IDF said.
This is Milley’s first trip to the Middle East as Chairman, and his visit to Israel is part of a series of meetings with military leaders “to assess the current security situation and to reaffirm the United States’ commitment to the region,” the US Army stated.
“The US and Israel enjoy a strong military-to-military relationship as key partners committed to peace and security in the Middle East region,” a statement by the Army said.
General Milley’s visit follows others by senior US military officers in the past month, as part of the armies’ cooperation, the IDF added.
US General David Goldfein, Chief of Staff of the US Airforce, was in Israel last week.
IDF Downs Gazan Drone
IDF forces on Saturday identified and shot down a drone that flew from the Gaza Strip towards Israel.
No one was injured in the incident. The IDF did not provide details on the nature or type of the drone or how it was downed.
Gaza-based terror organizations have in the past attempted to penetrate Israeli airspace with Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAV).
In October, an IDF unit identified a drone infiltrating from the Gaza Strip. The drone was shot down by IDF soldiers.
In September, Gaza-based terrorists launched an armed drone that dropped an explosive device on an IDF vehicle. No one was injured in the attack and an IDF vehicle was lightly damaged, but it is considered a significant escalation.
Israelis Air Force (IAF) warplanes pounded Hams targets in response to the attack.
A UAV flying from Gaza was shot down over Ashdod by a Patriot missile battery during Operation Protective Edge in July 2014.
Hamas has been working on developing aircraft that can be used for surveillance or attack missions.
IAF Gets Another 2 F-35 Fighters
The Israeli Air Force (IAF) on Wednesday received two more “Adir” F-35 fighters, bringing the total number of the advanced fighters in Israel to 22.
The two new fighters are the first in the new IAF F-35 “Lions of the South” squadron.
The continued acquisition of the “Adir” aircraft is “another expression of the long-standing military cooperation between Israel and the United States, which continues to produce the best results in the process of intensification and efficiency,” the IDF stated.
The Adir was declared operational by the IAF in December 2017. The Israeli F-35 was the first outside of the US to be declared operational, preceded only by the US Marine Corps and the US Air Force.
The fifth-generation fighter jet, manufactured by Lockheed Martin, is considered one of the world’s most advanced fighter aircraft. Israel has acquired a total of 50 F-35s which are to be supplied by December 2024.
Holland Challenges European Court’s Verdict Ordering the Labeling of Israeli ‘Settlement’ Products
A Dutch Member of Parliament has submitted a motion to the European Union (EU) challenging its highest court’s ruling which mandates that Israeli products coming from Judea, Samaria, eastern Jerusalem, and the Golan Heights must be labeled as coming from “settlements” and not from Israel.
Dutch politician Joël Voordewind submitted a motion that challenges the Court of Justice of the European Union’s (CJEU) verdict that pertains solely to Israeli products and does not apply to all other disputed areas.
While there are several contentious occupations closer to Europe, including Russia’s occupation of Crimea, Turkey’s occupation of northern Cyprus, Armenia’s occupation of Nagorno-Karabakh, and Morocco’s occupation of Western Sahara, the EJC’s ruling applies only to Israel.
The Dutch motion demands that the verdict relates to products coming from all disputed areas, “otherwise, this will be a violation of the principle of non-discrimination,” Voordewind said.
Israel’s Ambassador to The Netherlands Naor Gilon on Monday thanked Voordewind “and all the supporters of this motion.”
He expressed hope that “in case the Dutch government fails to persuade the EU to implement only if applicable to all territories in dispute, they will adopt their own recommendation and not implement a discriminatory resolution.”
Israel and several organizations have vowed to fight the ruling.
