Jerusalem, 12 May, 2021 (TPS) -- One Israeli was killed and three others were seriously wounded on the border with the Gaza Strip on Wednesday when a Hamas unit fired a Kornet anti-tank missile at the vehicle they were driving in.

Israeli medical teams evacuating the casualties were bombarded by terrorists firing mortars from the other side of the border, making the proper treatment of the casualties difficult.

An Israeli Air Force gunship was alerted to the scene to provide cover for the teams and fend off the terrorists.

Dr. Rafael Strogo, an  MDA doctor who treated the wounded, said that his team performed an initial triage for three wounded, one of whom was unconscious and suffered from injuries from shrapnel. Another wounded man was in a vague consciousness and suffered severe limb injuries.

“We evacuated the wounded to the hospital while providing medical treatment and stabilizing their condition. Alarms were sounded throughout the incident and we operated under fire,” he said.

The four casualties were evacuated to Barzilai Hospital, including one in severe condition, one seriously injured and two in moderate condition.

One of the victims subsequently died of his injuries.

Gazan sources report that at least 5 terrorists have been eliminated in a number of targeted assassinations carried out by the IAF in the Gaza Strip right after the attack.

Hamas has officially taken responsibility for the attack, which they carried out shortly after the IAF bombed another building in Gaza, the home of another senior Hamas figure which served as a weapons cache.

The victim, whose identity has yet to be announced, was the sixth to be killed by Hamas rocket fire since Sunday night when the IDF launched Operation Guardian of the Walls after Hamas attacked Jerusalem with a barrage of rockets.
