Israel Seizes Weapons, Destroys Explosives in Second Week of Jenin Counterterror Raid
Jerusalem, 29 January, 2025 (TPS-IL) -- As a counterterror operation in Jenin and Tulkarem entered its second week, soldiers have killed 18 terrorists and arrested 60 wanted Palestinians, the Israel Defense Forces said on Wednesday.
In Jenin, security forces confiscated and destroyed more than 150 explosive devices in the last 48 hours. Soldiers also uncovered weapons and a weapons-manufacturing workshop.
Visiting the Jenin refugee camp, Defense Minister Israel Katz vowed to “dismantle the terror infrastructure built in the Palestinian refugee camps with Iranian funding and weapons.” Accompanied by senior IDF commanders, Katz held a situational assessment and said the ongoing counterterror operation would expand to additional terror hubs.
In Tulkarem, soldiers seized weapons and combat engineers destroyed more than 30 explosive devices planted in roads.
The army’s Jenin raid, dubbed “Operation Iron Wall,” launched on January 21, comes on the heels of the Palestinian Authority’s failed crackdown in the Jenin refugee camp.
Previous Israeli counterterror operations in 2023 and 2024 in the Jenin camp uncovered a tunnel shaft, a rocket launcher, large amounts of weapons and bomb-making laboratories. As of 2023, just over 24,000 registered refugees were living in the camp that Palestinians have dubbed “The Martyr’s Capital.”
