Jerusalem, 17 June, 2024 (TPS) -- Israeli military activities continued hitting Hamas targets in the southern Gaza town of Rafah, the Israel Defense Forces said on Monday.

Based on intelligence, soldiers seized numerous weapons and struck several booby-trapped buildings rigged with explosives.

Several terrorists posing a threat to forces were eliminated in close-quarters combat and by aerial drones.

Israeli forces also destroyed a Hamas weapons storage facility from which anti-tank missiles were fired. Soldiers located grenades, explosives and military equipment.

The operations came one day after Israel buried 11 soldiers killed during a deadly weekend in Gaza.

Eight soldiers aboard an armored personnel carrier were killed on Saturday when their vehicle was attacked by an explosive device or anti-tank rocket in the southern Gaza town of Rafah. Another two soldiers were killed in northern Gaza when their tank was attacked with explosives.

The eleventh soldier died of injuries sustained when a booby-trapped building exploded and collapsed earlier in June. Four other soldiers were killed in that attack.

At least 1,200 people were killed, and 252 Israelis and foreigners were taken hostage in Hamas’s attacks on Israeli communities near the Gaza border on October 7. Of the 116 remaining hostages, more than 30 are believed dead.
