Fighter jets hit Palestinian Islamic Jihad targets

IDF jets struck eight Palestinian Islamic Jihad targets in the Gaza Strip Saturday morning, a military spokesman said.  The IDF said three military compounds had been hit and the targets included weapons manufacturing facilities and a factory producing concrete plates for building tunnels. The strikes followed over 80 sorties against Hamas and Islamic Jihad targets overnight. Earlier, the IDF said Islamic Jihad was behind rocket fire against Israel since Friday night and that the group was being directed by the regime in Syria and by the Iranian Quds force.

 

Islamic Jihad threatens to expand attacks on Israel

The Palestinian Islamic Jihad said it would consider expanding their attack on Israel, “both by the distance of the rockets fired, as well as the quantity of rockets,” should the IDF continue its strikes on Gaza, a spokesperson for the terror organization said in a press conference in Gaza on Saturday morning.

Liberman convenes chiefs of staff

Defense Minister Avigdor Liberman has convened an urgent security assessment at IDF headquarters Saturday in the wake of  the rocket attacks on Israel’s south. Liberman will meet with Chief of Staff Gadi Eisenkot and senior IDF and security establishment command. The defense minister has said several times in recent weeks that the time has come to land “a powerful blow” against Hamas and that Israel has exhausted all options in seeking a long-term understanding.

IDF, civil search and rescue units head to Jordan to assist in flood rescue efforts

IDF and civil rescue teams have been dispatched to Jordan after a bus carrying 37 schoolchildren and seven teachers was swept away by flash floods on the Jordanian side of the Dead Sea. Jordanian media reported at least 14 killed in the incident, The IDF said it had sent helicopters and soldiers from the Air Force’s 669 search and rescue unit following a request from the Jordanian government.  Teams from the Megillot and Gush Etzion search and rescue unit are also heading  to Jordan to assist in the search.

Woman injured in stoning attack near Tekoa

A woman has been lightly injured in a stone-throwing attack near the Tekoa Junction in northern Judea, south of Jerusalem.

The woman was treated on scene by paramedics, but was not evacuated to hospital. Significant damage was done to her car by the stone throwers.
