Supreme Court to rule on Lara Alqasem, delays deportation

The Supreme Court is set to hear an appeal in the case of Lara Alqasem on Wednesday and issued a stay on her deportation until the case is heard. Alqasem, 22, has been detained at Ben Gurion airport for nearly two weeks, after the state refused to grant the American national entry to Israel, where she was enrolled at Hebrew University as a graduate student. Alqasem was granted a student visa, however when she arrived at Ben Gurion Airport on October 2nd, she was barred from entering the country under Israel’s anti-BDS laws as she had served as president of the University of Florida local chapter of Student for Justice for Palestine, a group that advocates BDS. Her appeal against deportation was rejected Friday by a lower court.

New Jewish neighborhood to be built in Hebron

A new Jewish neighborhood will be built in Hebron, Defense Minister Avigdor Liberman announced Sunday. The new neighborhood will be built on the current site of a military base and will include 31 new apartments and two day-care centers. “I would like to thank the prime minister and the ministers for approving the plans for the Hezkiyahu neighborhood that I put together. It is another important milestone in the extensive work we are doing to strengthen settlement in Judea and Samaria,” Liberman said.

Israeli Single Parents, Same Sex Couples Barred From Adopting Russian Children

Israel and Russia reached an agreement by which same-sex couples or single parents would not be allowed to adopt children from Russia. The agreement is in compliance with a Russian law passed in 2014, which enforces the same limitations.

Israel’s Welfare Ministry said: “The State of Israel and Russia have reached understandings to promote the signing of an international adoption treaty. The treaty is based on mutual respect to the law in each respective country, and is in compliance with the Hague Convention on Protection of Children and Co-operation in Respect of Intercountry Adoption, which the State of Israel has signed.”

Swastikas found in kindergarten in Bat Yam

Swastikas with the words “Death to Jews,” written in Hebrew, were discovered in a Bat Yam kindergarten for special needs on Sunday morning.

Police said the kindergarten had been broken into and confirmed that an investigation into the incident has been opened.
