It’s ‘us or them’ says Tel Aviv Likud campaign for city council

Residents of Tel Aviv woke Thursday to find their city plastered with ads for a controversial campaign being waged by the Likud party’s list for the upcoming municipal elections taking place October 30

The campaign, titled “Us or Them”, portrayed Tel Aviv as being in the midst of a clash of civilizations between its Jewish population and the Arab citizens in Jaffa as well as the African migrant communities of South Tel Aviv.

In one campaign ad, an Israeli flag is portrayed on one side, and an islamist holding a Palestinian flag on the other. “It’s us or them,” the add stated, “The Hebrew City or the Islamic Movement in Jaffa,” it added.

Another such add showed the Israeli flag opposite a demonstration by African migrants, with the slogan reading: “It’s us or them – the Hebrew City or the infiltrator city.”

 

Tourist figures continue to surge

Some 3.1 million tourists visited Israel between January and September,  a 15% rise from 2017 when tourism hit an all-time year-long high of 3.836 million. The stats include 2.9 million tourists who visited Israel for multiple days, as well as 181,000 tourists who visited on day-trips. both entering and exiting the country on the same day. Some 1.6 million tourists arrived from Europe, 705,000 from North America, 300,000  from Asia and 93,000 from South America.

 

IDF in search of Palestinian minor who threw knife at soldiers at checkpoint

The IDF said it is conducting a search after a minor, believed to be about eight years old, who on Thursday morning, showed up at an IDF checkpoint near Ramallah, and threw a large knife towards the soldiers at the checkpoint, after yelling to get their attention. The child then ran away swiftly.

Nobody was injured in the incident.

IDF sends reinforcements to Gaza border

IDF Chief of Staff Lt. Gen. Gadi Eizenkot ordered that reinforcements be sent to the Gaza border and remain there for the coming days. The decision was made following a security situation assessment which included commanders from the IDF and Shin Bet.

“The IDF is ready and prepared for a wide range of scenarios, and holds Hamas responsible for all actions taking place in or emanating from the Gaza Strip,” the IDF Spokesperson said in a statement.

 

Security forces arrest seven in overnight raid

Security forces apprehended seven Palestinians suspected of being involved in terrorist activity and violent riots against civilians and security forces throughout Judea and Samaria on Tuesday night. The suspects were brought in for further questioning.
