Netanyahu: Brexit Has “No Direct Effect on Israel”

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu addressed Britain’s exit from the European Union, saying: “There is no direct effect on Israel apart from the fact that we are part of the global economy.”

“Over the weekend I held a discussion with the Finance Minister, the Governor of the Bank of Israel, Avi Simhon and other people, including professionals, regarding the implications for the Israeli economy. I can say one thing: The Israeli economy is strong,” Netanyahu added. “It has very considerable foreign currency reserves; therefore, to the extent that there is some effect, it is not expected to be strong, other than unrest in the global economy. I think that as this process is begun, Israel is in a good position.”

Israel to Increase Cooperation with Africa

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu discussed plans to increase cooperation between Israel and Africa ahead of his trip to the continent.

“As you know, soon I will be leaving on a visit to four African countries. This is part of a major effort on our part to return to Africa in a big way,” Netanyahu said before the weekly cabinet meeting that will discuss the plans. “This is important for Israeli companies and for the State of Israel. It is also important for the countries of Africa. We are enacting an important tool to start this process which, I have no doubt, will expand in the coming years.”

Stabber at Jerusalem Gay Pride Parade Receives Life Sentence and 31 Years

Yishai Schlissel , who was convicted of mudering Shira Banki and attempting to murder six others during a stabbing rampage at Jerusalem’s gay pride festival last summer, received a life sentence and an additional 31 years. He also received a judgment against him in the amount of NIS 2.64 million to be paid to the family of Shira Banki.

Four Muslims Arrested at Temple Mount for Disturbance to the Public

Four Muslims were arrested today for causing public disturbance and obstructing policemen at Temple Mount. The arrests took place shorty after the Temple Mount was opened for non-Muslims. The Muslim youths, some of whom were wearing masks, were yelling and taunting the Israeli visitors who continued to remain on the Temple Mount despite the disturbances.

Jerusalem police said that they would act against any attempt to disturb the peace, in order to protect the freedom to worship and security for all communities in the capital.
