Liberman Meets US Defense Secretary Carter to Discuss Fight Against Terrorism

Israel’s Defense Minister Avigdor Liberman, who is currently visiting the United States, met with the US Secretary of Defense Ash Carter at the Pentagon on Monday.

According to the Israeli Embassy in the US, Carter and Liberman discussed global fight against terrorism, recent developments in the Middle East, and other areas of cooperation between the countries.

Israel Foils Attempt to Smuggle Wetsuits Allegedly Meant for Hamas Commandos

Inspectors for the Land Crossings Authority seized dozens of professional wetsuits at the Kerem Shalom Crossing on Monday, suspecting that they were sent to terrorist organizations in the Gaza Strip, including Hamas’s naval commando unit.

“The wetsuits were concealed in a seemingly innocent shipment of sportswear,” said a statement by the Israeli Defense Ministry.”The shipment was seized and an investigation has been launched to discover who was involved.”

Netanyahu Announces Minimum Wage Increase

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, who also holds the portfolio of the Economy Ministry, announced that the minimum wage will be increased to NIS 4825 per month.

“This is the first social step upwards,” Netanyahu said, referring to an eventual additional increase in the minimum wage next year as well.

The increase to NIS 4825 is set to come into effect on July 1.

Netanyahu Expresses Continued Support For Nuclear Test Ban Treaty

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu expressed Israel’s continued support for the Comprehensive Nuclear Test Ban Treaty to its executive secretary Dr. Lassina Zerbo on Monday, noting that Israel is a signing party to the agreement.

Israel, along with the United States, has yet to ratify the agreement and Netanyahu stressed that Israel’s decision to do so will depend on whether regional developments will allow Israel to do so without undermining its national security. Such developments necessary include Iran becoming a ratifying party to the treaty.

 

MK Lapid: Herzog’s Election-Eve Deal with PA “Dangerous and Wrong”

MK Yair Lapid, who heads the centrist Yesh Atid party in the Knesset, has criticized Labor Chairman Isaac Herzog for his now-leaked deal with Palestinian Authority Chairman Abu Mazen.

“The negotiation Herzog conducted with Abu Mazen before the elections is a dangerous and wrong move,” said Lapid at the begining of the Yesh Atid party meeting. “This is the classic mistake of the left- rushing to announce what they are willing to concede in advance.”
