US Vice President Joe Biden: Israel Moving in Wrong Direction

19 April, 2016   |   8 years ago

US Vice-President Joe Biden said on Monday that Israel under Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s leadership is moving in “the wrong direction,” adding that he felt “overwhelming frustration” with the Israeli government. The remarks were made at the gala of the Israel-lobby J Street, a relatively new US lobby organization that is frequently critical of Netanyahu.

“I firmly believe that the action Israel’s government has taken over the past several years — the steady and systematic expansion of settlements, the legalization of outposts, land seizures — they’re moving us, and more important, they’re moving Israel, in the wrong direction,” Biden said. “They’re moving us toward a one-state reality, and that reality is dangerous.”

US Secretary of State John Kerry, who also spoke at the gala, said that the United States will continue pushing hard for the two-state solution as any other scenario would be “neither Jewish nor democratic.”

Jordan Abandons Plans to Install Security Cameras on Temple Mount

18 April, 2016   |   8 years ago

Jordanian Prime Minister Abdullah Ensour recently stated that Jordan would be abandoning its plan to install security cameras on the Temple Mount.

The announcement was made against the backdrop of threats from many Palestinians to destroy the security cameras following their installation.

Although the security cameras were to be installed in order as a prevention measure of “recurring assaults” on the Temple Mount such as prayer by Israeli Jews on the site, Palestinian objections centered around concerns that Israel would use the security cameras to investigate incidents of incitement.
