Jerusalem, 28 February, 2023 (TPS) -- The Tazpit Press Service signed a content-sharing agreement with the TV and Radio Complex of the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan (TRK) on Tuesday to increase the flow of information between the two countries.

TRK oversees the Kazinform International News Agency, one of largest news outlets in the Central Asian country which provides news in Kazakh, Russian, English, Chinese and Uzbek. TRK also manages two television channels and a documentary film center.

The Jerusalem-based Tazpit is the only Israeli wire service.

The agreement, signed by TRK Director General Raushan Kazhibayeva and Tazpit CEO Amotz Eyal, establishes the sharing of content between the agencies, and also covers potential training and visits to Kazakhstan and Israel.

Kazhibayeva stressed that media cooperation helps boost cultural and humanitarian ties, strengthening relations between countries. Eyal said the memorandum heralds fruitful cooperation between two news services and the countries they represent.

Israel and Kazakhstan established diplomatic relations in 1992 shortly after the Central Asian country gained independence following the collapse of the Soviet Union.

Bilateral ties focus on the sectors of education, medicine, agriculture and technology, as well as close defense and security collaboration. A number of Kazakh farmers and scientists have received training in Israel.

Jewish life has re-emerged in Kazakhstan after decades of Communist repression of religious life. An estimated 3,300 Jews live in Kazakhstan, with the largest communities in Astana, Almaty and Pavlodar. Astana’s Beit Rachel Synagogue is the largest in Central Asia.

Kazakhstan is a secular Muslim state that is tolerant of its religious and ethnic minorities, including Russian, Uzbek, Ukrainian and Tatar communities, among many others.

Tazpit has content-sharing agreements with news services based in the United Arab Emirates, India, Spain, Bulgaria, Romania, Macedonia, Armenia, Azerbaijan, and most recently in 2023, with news services in Russia, Albania and the Philippines.
